Burke’s Beach
If you’re dreaming of classic beach portraits, Burke’s Beach is one of my favorite Hilton Head family photo locations. It has gorgeous soft dunes, wide open shoreline, and some of the most beautiful golden-hour light on the island.
While the sun doesn’t set directly over the ocean here, the evening light wraps beautifully across the beach and creates that warm, coastal glow families love. The open shoreline gives us clean, timeless backgrounds and plenty of space for both posed portraits and natural, candid moments.
Burke’s is especially great for extended families because there’s room to spread out without feeling crowded. It’s a relaxed, classic Hilton Head setting that works beautifully year-round.
Spanish Moss & Southern Charm
Six Oaks Cemetery
I know what you might be thinking — a cemetery? But hear me out.
Six Oaks is one of the most beautiful, oak-filled spots on the island. Tucked beneath towering live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, this location feels peaceful, romantic, and unmistakably Southern.
When I photograph families here, we focus on the moss-covered pathways and the canopy of trees, not on headstones. The result is soft, filtered light and a timeless Lowcountry backdrop that feels elegant and natural. Six Oaks does require a reservation.

Pinckney Island

Sea Pines offers so much variety, which is why it’s one of my most requested areas for family portraits.

Water Tower Beach is peaceful and natural, with tall grasses and soft dunes. It’s slightly quieter than some other beach accesses, which makes it great for families wanting a relaxed atmosphere. The combination of sand, sea grass, and soft sunset light creates a timeless coastal look.
Harbour Town
If you love the idea of including the iconic lighthouse or marina views, Harbour Town is such a fun option. It gives your portraits a slightly more upscale coastal vibe and works especially well for extended families visiting together.
Because it’s such a popular area, it can be busier during peak vacation season and holidays. I always help my families choose the best timing and exact spots within Harbour Town so we can avoid heavy foot traffic and still capture beautiful, clean backgrounds.
